Wagamama Calories – the 2016 update

The lowest calorie meal at Wagamama

Hey people who found this via google – the below post is now out of date too so, I’ve updated it. Click on the blue words to be taken to the 2017 version.

By far the most popular post on this blog is the one telling people what the lowest calories dishes are to order in Wagamama. I wrote it three years ago and every week hundreds of people click on it – however I have now realised that actually it’s a bit out of date. You see at the time Wagamama was selling sushi so that was the lowest calorie option to order – but they’ve stopped that now so immediately, we’re talking disappointment from your Google search. Others from the super low options have also vanished. Of course they’ve been replaced by some super yummy alternatives that I haven’t yet examined and, on top of this, after doing a bit of maths, it seems that they’ve actually reworked a few of the old dishes too. My personal favourite dish – the Yaki Soba – has fallen from a hefty 728 calories to a relatively saintly 586 since I last wrote about it.

So, with no further ado I present to you…..the lowest calorie dishes in Wagamama as per February 2016 (drumroll please)

The absolute lowest calorie thing you can eat is the Sirloin and Shitake Salad at a tiny 381 calories.

 

That’s it above and while I admit it looks tasty – I don’t go to Wagamama to eat salad. If you’re with me on that one, here’s the lowest calorie choice from each of the other categories on the menu…

Omakase – choose the Grilled Tuna for 626 calories

Ramen – Chicken Ramen at 510 calories

Noodles – Yaki Soba at 586 calories (this makes me immensely happy)

Donburi – Teriyaki Chicken Donburi at 910 calories

Curries – the Prawn Kare Lomen is your go-to dish at 707 calories

Salads – I’ve already given you this it’s the Sirloin and Shitake at just 381 calories

Sides – the Aga Dashi is the lowest at 153 calories, Lollipop Prawn Kushiyaki is a close second at 170 calories. Oh, and should you be a gyoza fan like me, Pulled Pork is your friend at 206 calories.

Veggies – you may note that there’s not a veggie main as the lowest alternative. Do not fret, I have checked this for you too –  your lowest calorie choice of all is the Warm Tofu Chilli Salad at 503 calories, closely followed by the Yasi Ramen at 551 calories. You should also start with the Aga Dashi.

Oh, and just because I know some of you are wondering – what’s the highest calorie option? Well, it seems the the Surendra’s Curry with Tilapia Fish (see this is why I want calorie counts on menus…..every diet advice piece out there tells you, ‘order the fish and the steamed rice’ but this proves that nope, it doesn’t always work!)

So there you have it……and yes, I know I should be looking at things like fat, sugar, salt etc but I’ll be honest – my search terms are never for ‘which dish in Wagamama has the most salt’ so I’m going to focus on what the people want to know. If you do want to check on things like carbohydrates, sugar, fat and sodium though – or simply want to check the information on your own personal favourite dish – then everything you need is on the Wagamama website. All you need to do is go to wagamama.com/ourmenu. Click on the category of dish you want to investigate, then hover over the dish itself at which point a big black square will appear. Inside of that you’ll see a red arrow – click on that and everything you need will be revealed. Happy investigating and have a lovely night out. I really want a Yaki Soba now.

Oh and while I’m here if you’re one of those people that loves the calorie comparison posts, let me know what you’d like me to look at next? Any restaurant you’d like to know some numbers for, or do you wish you knew which was the lowest calorie pizza/spaghetti bolognaise or burger on the High Street – I’m open to suggestions below.

Note: As readers of the comments might spot the first draft of this piece has the salad calories at 281 – no idea why. I must be going mad but thankfully clever reader Emma spotted my mistake. The piece has now been amended to the correct total of 381 – but it’s still the lowest main on offer.

    Thank you this is SO helpful! I’m also so happy about the reduce in calories for the yaki soba! Just one thing the sirloin and shitake salad is 381 cals not 281 xx

      Not sure if that means my brain is failing or my eyes but I checked that three times!!! I even have 281 written in my notes and ticked!! Well spotted. Will amend.

    Hi, Yaki Soba a has 700 calories, Yasai Yaki Soba has 678…just checked. Unless I’m going mad…. Hope not, although I too fancy a Yaki Soba now and don’t have enough calories… Boo!

      Aggh, why, why do they hate us in this way – not least as I now have to redo this post AGAIN. I suppose that’s the nature of life, nothing stays the same…..*looks wistfully off into the distance.*. Thanks so much for letting me know though.

    I’m really sorry to tell you this. I kind of don’t want to tell you this. But yaki soba is now listed at 700 cals. 🙁

    Thank you for this – I searched all over the website for nutritional info as there are multiple listings on My Fitness Pal and didn’t spot it. For somewhere I thought was a healthy option, everything is so high! I’m going for lunch today and am now leaning towards just getting what I want rather than the lowest thing. I wish they did half portions! That would be amazing…
