One fun – and super popular – 10km event on the London run calendar is ZSL London Zoo’s Stampede which lets you run round the home of exotic furry, feathery or leathery creatures in London’s Regents Park. The event normally takes place in September but today they announced that because it’s now so popular, they’ve launched a second event in April.
Taking place on April the 17th,(9.30am start) it starts and finishes in the zoo, but heads out into Regents Park for the majority of the 10km – there’s a map here if you want to check it the exact course. Entry costs £34 for individual runners which considering it includes a run, a medal, goody bag and entry to the Zoo afterwards isn’t a bad price. There are reduced prices for ZSL members and affiliated runners. Profits and any sponsorship (they suggest you raise £50 per person) go to help fund wildlife conservation. If you want more details the entry form etc can be found here and assuming it doesn’t sell out, entries are open until April 16th. Oh and if you enter the April race you get a five percent discount to run the one on September the 18th too.
I enjoyed this run when I did it a couple of years ago – I admit I was expecting a bit more animal action on the course – in terms of seeing them, not race a tiger or anything, but it was fantastically organised and to be honest, I liked the excuse to go to the Zoo for the day. You’ll find my post on the race here if you want a bit more detail before you actually sign on the dotted line.
In other event news I’ve entered the Supernova 5k in March. It’s a glowy night run around the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, East London – and I thought it looked fun. One other interesting thing I noticed about this event is that they are classing Parkrun as a running club – which I’m aware it is, but normally when I think official running club I think fast people in short shorts so I was pleasantly surprised to see Parkrun included, not least because running club members get £2.00 off the entry fee – £13.95 sounded an okay price to pay for a fun evening of jogging and so I signed up. The London event is on March 5th from 7pm but they are also doing races in Bournemouth and Falkirk later this year. See more about the events here.
So, that’s another run added to my race calendar – what’s the most fun event on yours?
